Y&MV SD35 552 is the first locomotive painted for my Yazoo & Mississippi Valley Railroad which is intended to simulate a Southern Mississippi/Louisiana regional spin-off of the Illinois Central Railroad. The IC did some unique things with the locomotives it rebuilt, creating the GP8, GP10, GP11, and the SD20.
The six SD35's on the Y&MV roster are intended to help transfer, in my opinion, that "IC feel" to this railroad. While in the real world, there were no SD35's without dynamic brakes, the six "after-market" SD35's Y&MV rosters have had their dynamic brakes removed to create a locomotive that is unique to this flat-land railroad. The non-dynamic brake hatch was made from two Atlas GP40 non-dynamic brake hatches.
For the purposes of the Y&MV mechanical department, this unit is an SD35 and carries no other special designation.
The shell is a bit difficult to snap on. Currently the unit is disassembled awaiting decoder installation. LokSound has indicated that it will soon be releasing a 16-cylinder EMD 567D3A prime mover sound....so we patiently wait! Chop Chop there LokSound!!!!
