Y&MV GP7 201 is one of three Ex-Santa Fe GP7u's on the roster sporting the unique "Topeka Cab" applied to many of the GP7's and GP9's rebuilt by the Santa Fe. Much like the Santa Fe CF7 and the Illinois Central GP10, these units were quality rebuilds with much useful life in them after their original owners were done with them. Topeka-cab GP7u's are still roaming the rails of short lines and industries today.
For the purposes of the Y&MV mechanical department, this unit is a GP7 and will not carry the "u" suffix which meant "upgraded" on the Santa Fe roster.
Purchased from Trainworld, this model was delivered today, 1-2-2015, via U.P.S. This will be the first painted Athearn Genesis model that I will disassemble and re-paint. It was purchased without the stock Athearn Tsunami sound. After the paint shop is finished with the Y&MV 201, it will be sent off for LokSound decoder installation as well as LED headlight and ditch light installation.
This unit will be the first project since the creation of this web site and I will chronicle progress on this page and on the blog.
